Selecting the Right Paper

The type of paper you use can greatly impact your coloring experience. Thick, high-quality paper prevents bleeding and allows colors to blend smoothly. Consider choosing paper with a smooth texture for detailed coloring or a textured surface for a more artistic look. My preferred papers are Strathmore but there are many out there that are cheaper and just as good. Check out my Supply Links page to help you get started.

Understand Color

Primary Colors:
Yellow, Blue and Red. These are the colors not obtainable by mixing others together.

Secondary Colors:
Green, Purple and Orange. These colors are made by taking equal quantities of two primary colors and mixing them together.

Tertiary Colors:
These colors are obtained by mixing together a primary color with a secondary color.

Popular Color Schemes
Two of the most common color schemes are the use of monochromatic colors. This is when you use one color in varying shades of light to dark. The second most common is the use of a complimentary color scheme. This is when you use two colors on the opposite side of the color wheel.
